What's on in York

July/August/September

Starters orders are under way at the splendid Knavesmire racecourse.  Highlight of the racing calendar is the Ebor Festival (19-22 August), when world-class thoroughbreds compete for gold, and racegoers dress up to the nines, bring out the wicker hampers and pop the bubbly.  Away from the track, York shows off for summer with its beautiful cobbled quarters of quaint cafes and a string of open-air festivals that bring music and mime, nostalgia and festivities.
