Summer means festivals and, whatever your tastes, the city has one to suit. The Leeds Festival celebrates its 10th anniversary this year in typically noisy style with an all-American headlining trio of Rage Against the Machine, The Killers and Metallica. Lots of Leeds' cafe-cars and restaurants now offer alfresco dining - perfect for soaking up the summer sun. But if the weather fails there are always the city's famed shops, many of which are waterproofed in stylish Victorian arcades, or Leeds City Museum, opening this August with free admission.

Leeds Festival, Bramham Park

22-24 August 08
The North's only major music festival, now in its 10th year. Three days of top-notch mucic from festival faves The Killers, Queens of the Stone Age and Bloc Party, with plenty of hot new bands to check out, including CSS, Vampire Weekend, MGMT, Foals and The Last Shadow Puppets.

Moor Music Festival, Addingham Moorside, Ilkley

7-9 August 08
With its locally produced food and non-corporate stance, this independant festival is as down to earth as it gets. Leeds' own beatmasters Utah Saints feature among an organic assortment of music, DJs, film, kids' fun and chilling out in the hills.

The Small Boutique, Queens Hotel

The organisers of the Leeds Vintage Fashion Fair stage this event celebrating the small, independant boutique. Browse among hand-picked and unusal clothes, shoes, jewellery and homewares in the refurbished Queens Hotel's Palm Court.

The Henry Moore Institute – 74 The Headrow, LS1 3AH

This award-winning retro-futuristic black marble building houses galleries and a sculpture reference library. Temporary exhibitions are hosted on the ground floor.
